5 ways to make your business card design standout

Want your business card design to stand out from a deck of business cards? It’s time to break convention with a unique look all of your own.

1. Size matters
Think outside the realms of a standard-sized business card design with an attention-grabbing size or shape. Sure, a conventionally proportioned card can be easily slipped into a wallet or business card holder, but once stowed away, that’s where its life typically ends. If you’re a builder, think about a business card design in the shape of a hammer, or for those in the IT field, a computer mouse-shaped card could be a bit of fun – and extremely memorable.

2. Colour is key
Forget drab shades of black and grey; it’s time to brighten up your business card design with splashes of vibrant colour. Think loud purples and pinks, and if you’re feeling really creative, fluoros could even do the trick.

3. Get interactive
While you might like to try out an eye-catching font, your business card design might call for more extreme measures. A pop-up design is a great way of standing out, as well as surprising the recipient! One of the best business card designs we’ve seen was a card for a mechanic, which had little magnet-backed punch-out tools that could be arranged and rearranged on the fridge – kept everyone entertained for yonks!

4. Funny does it
People love a giggle, even about serious business matters. By using a funny slogan or picture on your business card, you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank! If you’re a plumber, the old plumber’s crack joke can work as a treat, or something equally inappropriate will get people talking.

5. Material girl
While standard cardboard stock might make the most financial sense, you may want to splash out on something a little fancier, like textured paper. If you’re really thinking you could use a material associated with your profession. So, if you have a carpet layer or cleaner, a swatch of carpet could be incorporated into your business card, or a piece of canvas could form the basis of a funky business card design for an artist or photographer.
