How does the price you quote impact on your customers?

Quoting on a job is the time when you most want to stand out from the crowd. You want to give your potential customer an honest, reliable quote- but could the price you give be scaring customers away?

At ServiceSeeking, we process 45,000 new jobs through our website every month- so we know a thing or two about how your potential customers think.

Things like- average hourly rate, quote response time, and total job value… we also know how they think when they see a quote that’s too high or too low.

A customer’s train of thought when posting on ServiceSeeking looks a little something like this:

  1. The customer posts a job
  2. Starts receiving quotes to their email or mobile phone
  3. Filters through quotes based on business reviews- they keep positively reviewed businesses and discard negatively reviewed businesses
  4. The customer stops looking at quotes after they’ve received around 4 to 5- depending on the complexity of the project
  5. They next sort through the price of each quote. They’ll look into any extreme prices- very high or very low- reading their reviews in more detail- looking for proof of quality workmanship via portfolio photos on the business’ page
  6. Then, they’ll award the job to a company or make contact with an average of three businesses, if they require a face-to-face meeting

Quotes that are too high or too low don’t necessarily work in your favour. If customers don’t see evidence- reviews and profile photos- of your workmanship, they’ll blatantly disregard your quote. You want your potential customer to trust you and believe your skill is superior to the competition- so quoting accurately, with reviews and photos to back it up, is the way to go!
