Tim Griffin was just like many others, sitting at his desk, staring at his computer screen, and dreaming of a different life.

In February 2022, he made a bold decision: he left his paid office job in search of something that would keep him active, working outdoors in the fresh air. It wasn’t long before Tim realised his true calling was right in front of him—or rather, in his own backyard.

For over 30 years, Tim had meticulously cared for his own lawn and garden. This experience sparked the idea of turning his passion into a profession. And so, by July 2022, with a trailer hitched to his car and his existing garden tools ready to go, Tim Griffin Lawn & Garden was born.

However, he quickly learned that maintaining a garden as a hobby and running a professional lawn care business were two different things.

Learning the Ropes

In the early days, Tim took on any job that came his way. He relied heavily on referrals from friends and existing clients. This method brought in work, but it also led to Tim spending a significant amount of time travelling between jobs, leaving him with little time to actually do the work he loved.

Realising he needed a more efficient way to build his client base within a specific area, Tim turned to our website. Joining ServiceSeeking was a turning point for Tim. “I quickly realised that the clients I was gaining through ServiceSeeking were not only closer to home but also more ready to commit to getting the job done,” he says.

The ease of using the platform meant Tim could focus less on travel and more on delivering high-quality service. He started ‘sacking’ clients outside his preferred area, ensuring his business operated more efficiently.

Growth and Expansion

Tim's strategic shift soon paid off. As more clients came in, demand grew, and so did his need for additional help.

By September 2023, Tim was in a position to hire his first employee, marking a significant milestone in his business journey. The team at Tim Griffin Lawn & Garden continued to thrive, focusing on delivering excellent service and building strong relationships with their clients.

“Good communication and doing a good job are key,” Tim shares. “When clients are happy, they’re proud to refer their friends, and that’s been a huge part of our growth.”

The Role of ServiceSeeking

It’s no surprise that Tim attributes much of his business success to ServiceSeeking. He finds the technology user-friendly and appreciates that most of the people who post jobs are genuinely ready to move forward and pay a fair price for the service.

“There are very few bargain hunters,” Tim notes, highlighting how the platform has helped him attract quality clients who value his expertise.

Like any business, Tim Griffin Lawn & Garden faces its share of challenges. Winter can be a quieter time, with fewer jobs coming in. But Tim has found a way to use these slower periods to his advantage.

“During winter, I work three to four days a week instead of five or six,” Tim explained. This downtime allows him to recharge and prepare for the busier spring and summer months.

Every business owner encounters setbacks, and Tim is no exception. His biggest lesson from these challenges? Persevere.

Measuring Success

For Tim, success isn’t just about the number of clients or the size of his team. It’s about the quality of his work and the satisfaction of his customers. “I measure success by the increase in average income generated for a standard job,” Tim says.

Tim Griffin Lawn & Garden is more than just a business; it’s a reflection of Tim’s passion for the outdoors and his commitment to delivering top-notch service.

With a growing client base, an expanding team, and a strong partnership with ServiceSeeking, the future looks bright for Tim.

His journey from an office worker to a thriving business owner serves as an inspiration to anyone considering a career change. After all, sometimes all it takes is a leap of faith, a love for what you do, and the right tools to make it happen.
