How this Star of Courage medalist turned bravery into big business

ALEX TASKUN, a ServiceSeeking plumber and founder of GT Plumbing, is a tradie like no other.  A recipient of the “Star of Courage”, this plumber has managed to turn his pursuit of valour and good deeds into a plumbing business eyeing $1m of turnover in FY20.

The story begins way back in 2007 when the tradie managed to overcome a knife-wielding criminal attacking a bystander walking down the street. Taskun overcame the assailant, but not before he had inflicted grotesque injuries on the victim. A judge found the assailant was criminally insane, and for his efforts, Taskun was awarded 3 valour medals, including his coveted Gold Stanhope Medal.

He then pursued many years of philanthropy, helping impoverished Cambodians on their quest for clean water while simultaneously caring for his ill father, who was battling stage 4 cancer. Through his father’s illness, Taskun suffered greatly, losing his partner and virtually “starting from scratch”, as he puts it. 

But it was his quest to give back to the community that pushed this young man into the world of plumbing. “Clean water for all” is his life’s motto and one that is befitting of this ServiceSeeking tradie with 100% positive feedback and a team of 7 working for him. Over the last year alone, Taskun made 57 times his $700 ServiceSeeking investment in turnover.
