1. Create a reading nook

A beanbag, an area rug, a throw and a book rack. Put these in a corner with good lighting and you’ve got yourself a cosy,  little reading nook. Take it to the next level with window seats or loft spaces. Encourage your little ones to use the space by displaying their favourite books and designating a “reading time” every day. Let your kids own the space by putting their artwork on the walls. Make sure to rotate the selection of books to keep them coming back for more.

2. Add a growth chart

A growth chart is a wonderful decor that you can add to your kid’s room. There are plenty of DIY growth chart ideas on the internet. From wooden rulers to oversized rulers, you’re sure to find something that will appeal not just to you but to your child as well.

3. Use chalkboard paint

Nothing would make a child happier than to draw on the walls without getting into trouble. You can paint a part or even the entire wall, a door or use a framed chalkboard. Provide different coloured chalks and watch as this blank wall becomes a masterpiece as well as the focal point of the room.

4. Wall decals

Wall decals are a fantastic way to spruce up your child’s room. With wall decals, there are endless choices to suit every budget and taste. There are stars, castles, animals, flowers etc.. Since they’re pretty cheap, you can always update them once your child requests for some new ones. Place them not just on ceilings but on walls to double as a night light.

5. Dress up the windows

You never know what scraps of fabric can do to liven up your child’s window. Use pink tulles for girls and military fabrics for boys.

Unless you have tons to spend, there’s no need for extravagance when updating your kid’s room. All you have to do is use a bit of creativity and a lot of love. Your kid’s smile or whoop of appreciation will be worth it.
