Cover up: choosing your blinds -

Selecting the right blinds for your home can often be hit-or-miss. Taner Siper from fixmyplace helps take the chance out of this difficult process by revealing all the factors that should be considered when making your decision.

Price
Cost is a major factor when choosing blinds; by spending a fraction more, you can give your home that special finishing touch. “ A lot of customers go for the cheaper option and then end up wishing they spent the extra dollars in the first place,” Taner shares. You don’t have to spend a fortune. It might just be that another option would be better suited.

Practicality
It’s also important to keep practicality in mind. Are you covering a sliding door that needs to be accessed regularly? If so, venetian blinds might not be the best choice. Do windows need to be wound open every day or are they sliding windows?

Who do you need?

Sunlight
To decide what thickness of blind you’ll require, you should consider how much sunlight you’d like the space to receive. Do you need it to be a well-lit area? Would you prefer no sunlight at all – or perhaps just in the mornings? If you’re installing blinds in the bedroom, you’ll probably want to make sure they’re capable of blocking out most of the light.

Privacy
You should decide how much privacy you require from your blind – especially at night – when light inside can create a silhouette.

Décor

You’ll also want to make sure you’re choosing blinds that blend well with your existing décor. Will the blinds complement the furniture, or will they stick out like a sore thumb? Taner also advises being aware of lovely outlooks to make sure the blinds don’t impede any desirable waterfront or bushland views.

Colour
This element goes hand-in-hand with décor. Whether you choose neutral, naturally-toned blinds or something that’s a bit brighter and more of a “statement-maker”, it’s important to not only select a colour that matches your décor but one you actually like. After all, blinds are a permanent fixture, so there’s no turning back once you’ve made your choice!
