Decking: a summer essential

Here's why a deck is a must-have for the summer season.

Summer, it rolls around every year and catches us unawares and as it wraps up each time we promise to be better prepared next year. All the odd jobs that need doing around the house will be done – decking is at the top of this list.

There are some things that just go hand-in-hand with summer, like lazy days spent outdoors with mates and family playing backyard cricket, sizzling snags on the barbie and dodging mozzies.

If you have a backyard set up for entertaining, along with a burning hot plate, decking is a must-have for your alfresco area.

Decking not only lifts the appearance of your home, but it’s also a practical inclusion that provides a stable ground for tables and chairs, late-night dancing and maybe even a ping pong table or jacuzzi spa.

If you’ve always intended to have decking built in your garden, don’t stall and let another summer pass you by.

Know your limits
All too often, large projects like decking are ambitiously set aside for a weekend of DIY. However, this is commonly the reason why they never get done. For most, finding the time is near impossible and such projects in the hands of amateurs almost always wind up taking much longer – and being more difficult –  than anticipated. The result is either half-completed decking or no decking at all; either way, entertaining is off the cards for another holiday season.

Avoid this dismal fate by hiring a tradesperson or team to build your decking for you. Carpenters, landscape gardeners and handymen are available through Service Seeking and cost less than you might think to build outdoor structures such as decking. Quotes start from $25 per hour and increase with site and job difficulty and size. What’s more, you will be certain to find someone available within weeks or even days, putting your procrastination to an end.

Why stop there?
Decking is a great start to your alfresco home makeover, but if you truly want your backyard to transform into a useful space ideal for entertaining, take it to the next level with further additions –  a gazebo, outdoor kitchen or games area could be just what you need to make this summer a knockout.

What type of tradie do you need?

Landscape gardener

  • A landscape gardener is the right choice if you want your new decking area to be part of a larger garden design.

Carpenter

  • If you think your decking job requires an extra level of expertise for successful construction, a carpenter with experience in building outdoor structures will be your best option.

All-rounder tradie or handyman

  • For a simple decking project or to bring rundown decking back to glory, an all-rounder tradie – or handyman – will do the trick and will probably be able to give you a hand with all the other odd jobs you’ve been meaning to get around to.

List your decking project on ServiceSeeking.com.au today and enjoy the party season.
