Ants are one of the most common pests that can be found inside homes. A few ants here and there may seem harmless, but when left alone, they can easily lead to infestation. They may be small, but they can be a big pain in the neck once they’ve set up a colony in your property. Here are a few simple tips to help prevent or get rid of ants:

Keep the house clean and store food properly

Prevention is always the best route to take. The basic idea is to keep your home clean and store food where ants can’t reach them. Just like with any other species, ants go where there is food. They are always on the lookout for food so make sure that they don’t see your property as a food source. Putting food in airtight and sealed containers and storing them in your fridge is not enough, though. Cleaning up is important as well; even the the smallest crumbs can attract ants into your abode. Additionally, keep your trash outside to prevent ants from going into your garbage cans.

Prevent access

Sealing off possible entry points is another way to deter ants from invading your home. Because of their small size, this is easier said than done. Ants can pass through even the tiniest cracks, so you might want to try caulking to prevent these insects from entering your home.

Use natural deterrents

If the aforementioned preventive measures still don’t work and ants are fast becoming a problem, you need to take the necessary steps to get rid of them. The good news is, there are a lot of available natural products that can help keep ants at bay. Examples of these are cinnamon, baby powder, white vinegar and water solution, turmeric, and powdered charcoal.

Hire a professional exterminator

For severe ant infestations, it’s best to hire a pest control company that can get rid of the ants quickly once and for all. Exterminators have the knowledge, experience, and equipment needed to effectively kill ants and destroy their colonies.
