Safety Guide for Essential Trades & Services

Many Household Trades and Service businesses can still operate under the current Government restrictions. To help minimise the risk from COVID-19, we strongly recommend both workers and consumers follow these simple common-sense guidelines below.

General Safety Guidelines for Essential Trades Businesses

• Use digital apps to quote. Customers can discuss job requirements on Facetime, Skype or Zoom and/or send pictures of the worksite by SMS or email so you can quote properly.
• Travel to jobs in separate cars if working with colleagues.
• Avoid shaking hands or coming within 1.5 metres of the homeowner when you meet for site visits or to do a job.
• Ask the homeowner to provide dedicated access to work areas if possible – for example, through a side or back door rather than through living areas.
• When working with colleagues indoors, allow 4m2 space for each worker.
• When working inside, ask the customer where their bathroom is so you can wash your hands before starting.
• Sneeze or cough into your elbow.
• Wear a mask and gloves when working.
• Use hand sanitiser before and after every job.
• Open windows to provide additional ventilation.
• Wipe down work surfaces with disinfectant before and after you work.
• Ask customers to pay electronically or with a card instead of handling cash.
