Every season, there are new renovation trends, and sometimes it can be confusing trying to keep up.

So, what’s on the bucket list of Aussie renovators this Spring?

Open-plan living

Well, open-plan living and indoor-outdoor connectivity are still high priorities, with 45 per cent of those surveyed recently by ServiceSeeking.com.au adding these two elements as their top picks.

That is despite some trend forecasters predicting an end to our love for open-plan living in favour of more defined living spaces.

Smart houses

With a quarter of homeowners admitting they plan to renovate in the next year, it seems technology will be a major focus for many of them. While it feels like technology surrounds us everywhere, it is now abundantly more important to renovators and homeowners, too, with 37% keen on energy-efficient accessories, 33% on solar panels, and 17% on toilets with technology.

“No one wants to spend their hard-earned money on a top-notch renovation that their friends think is ‘so yesterday’ the minute it is finished,” says ServiceSeeking.com.au CEO Jeremy Levitt. “But sometimes you have to ignore the stylist's trends and go with what makes you happy and comfortable.”

Splashbacks & White Walls

In the kitchen, it’s all about the splashback, with 43 per cent putting a lot of thought into this most-important design feature. And nearly half of renovators (45 per cent) prefer floorboards for their flooring.

Crisp white walls are still very much in favour, with 35 per cent of renovators choosing this colour palette, while colours are not as popular, with just 13 per cent keen to splash vibrant colours around.

Despite terracotta tiles being flagged as being on-trend for 2017, just 6 per cent of homeowners are currently interested in adding it to their renovation.
