Studio vs. Natural Light
Want to get some professional photos but don't know whether to go for a studio or an outdoor shoot? Read on to learn more about studio and natural light.
So you’d love to get professional photos of you and your partner, with your kids, or maybe a big group family shoot? Do you go to a studio, or do you utilise natural light? Photographer Sue Taylor discusses the pros and cons of both.
Studio work is becoming very ‘80s in its vibe, and the new direction of professional photos is more reflective of the use of natural light.
Natural light – especially in areas with shade to avoid harsh sunlight – will create the most lovely soft tones on the skin.
You can have backgrounds shot in focus or blurred out – it’s up to you.
You can have a water backdrop at a beach or lake, greenery in a park or a country theme or maybe even an urban city street theme.
It’s your shoot, and it should be individual and unique.
We will always offer lots of advice on locations to suit your needs.
Location shots are normally more natural and candid rather than posed, which creates more emotion in an image.
Black and white add an extra feeling to a photo as there is no distraction with colour.
We often recommend a studio-type shoot with a newborn or young baby as we simply come to your home, put up a backdrop and bring a studio light. This way, we can control every part of the shoot, which can be handy for little ones.
So whether you want an on-location shoot or a shoot in your own home – studio style, be sure to be specific about your needs, so you get the shots you want.
