The introduction of the carbon tax on July 1 has received lots of attention – and not in a good way. Most concerns surround rising electricity prices.

But our energy bills aren’t the only thing on the way up; Master Builders warn the carbon tax is also going to drive up the cost of construction. The cost impact will vary depending on the materials used, the size of the building, the location and ultimately, the customer. But owner-builders are going to feel it.

There are calls to offset these price increases with a top-up to the First Home Owners Grant to help control housing affordability.

Do you think the government should step in and help?

Are you a builder who has already noticed additional costs from suppliers, manufacturers or distributors?
