If you have a baby on the way and an unused room in your house, then you’re the perfect candidate for building an awesome nursery! Here are some tips on how to turn your plain, old spare room into a precious nursery.
Redesign the walls
Painting your spare room a fresh colour is one of the top ways to transform it into a gorgeous nursery. Don’t limit your choices to pastel shades when picking out a colour palette. You can try neutral beige or grey if you want a timeless and sophisticated nursery. Choose an earthy green combined with different shades of brown for a gender-neutral and relaxing room. If you want the room to pop, go for colours like turquoise, fuschia, or sunshine yellow.
Once you’ve chosen the paint, you can also add some posters, art pieces, murals, and decals to brighten up the room and encourage visual stimulation for your baby. The painting job shouldn’t cost you too much. Remember to choose low-VOC paint to make sure that your baby won’t be harmed by toxic chemicals used in ordinary paint.
Get some essential furniture
A sturdy crib and a functional changing table are two important pieces of furniture that you have to get for your new nursery. A good changing station would have space for storing baby clothes, diapers, wipes, and lotions for easy access. A side table, comfortable chair, and footstool should also be on your list. These will be very helpful for when you need to stay in the nursery for breastfeeding, etc. If you have enough space, you can even get a daybed so you can join your baby inside the nursery for some daytime napping.
Maximise storage space
Make sure that you get the most out of every bit of storage space in the room. Line the walls with shelves for the baby’s books, photos, and toys. You can also get baskets or plastic boxes to keep your baby’s toys and clothing. A good tip would be to store the clothes according to size. Take out only those that fit the baby and store the bigger and smaller clothing in some boxes to minimise closet clutter.
Have fun with decorations
Now that you have the essentials, it’s time to step up the nursery with unique decorations. You can get a small, sparkly chandelier, bright patterned curtains, and some unique mobiles to add personality to the nursery.
