On House Rules this week, teams had just 24 hours and $5000 to change one zone in their home, and there were some pretty impressive transformations.
So, if you had a similar budget – where would you spend your money? What room in your house needs a little revamp?
Theo from All Fix Handyman Services says the jobs he does most often are painting, picture hanging and deck revarnishing.
“Giving the walls a fresh coat of paint in bright, lighter colours is a great way to open up a room and give it a new perspective,” he says.
It seems the House Rules contestants had the same idea, and Brooke and Michelle’s new colour palette earned them top points. They turned their living space into a modern, funky cafe-style lounge with a coat of paint and a few smart furniture choices.
“You definitely chose the right zone; you used your time and your money really well. This was your style at its absolute best,” judge Wendy Moore told them.
The freshly painted and balanced wall colours paired with Michelle’s DIY art project created the funky edge their original house rule had demanded and fitted perfectly into their living room zone. “What a treat your living room was – it was so modern and funky, which was right on your house rules,” said judge Joe Snell.
Fil and Joe were able to give their bathroom the OTT look they were looking for by adding statement wallpaper and an impressive chandelier, proving you can completely change the look of a room with just minor enhancements.
