Renovation Trends to Watch Out For in 2025
Know the hottest renovation trends for 2025! From statement pieces to calming design, discover how to create a trendy and functional home.
Renovation trends are shaping the way Australians design, build, and live in their homes. With 2025 on the horizon, homeowners and tradies alike are keen to stay ahead of the curve. Whether you're considering a stylish makeover or offering services to meet growing demands, here are the key trends transforming Australian homes this year.
1. Jolie Laide: The Beauty of Imperfection
One of the most talked-about trends for 2025 is the concept of Jolie Laide, or “pretty-ugly.” This bold approach places unusual or imperfect items at the centre of interior design, turning potential eyesores into conversation starters. Think garish thrift-store lamps, quirky sculptures, or mismatched furniture.
For Homeowners: Adding personality to your space doesn’t require a big budget. Look for unique items that spark joy or intrigue.
For Tradies: Highlight your ability to repurpose or restore unusual pieces. Suggesting creative solutions can set you apart from competitors.
2. Earthy Terracotta and Striking Marble Veins
Terracotta hues and marbled surfaces with bold veining are making a comeback, combining earthy warmth with a touch of luxury. Green, blue, and burgundy tones in marble are especially popular, adding depth and drama to bathrooms, kitchens, and living spaces.
For Homeowners: Consider mixing terracotta tiles with bold marble accents for a balanced and stylish look.
For Tradies: Offer expertise in sourcing and installing these materials, emphasising their durability and timeless appeal.
3. Japandi Design
Japandi, a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, continues to dominate. This style embraces simplicity, natural materials, and efficient use of space. Soft curves, low furniture, and neutral tones create a calming, clutter-free environment.
For Homeowners: Even small spaces can benefit from Japandi principles. Decluttering and adding multifunctional furniture are great starting points.
For Tradies: Promote your ability to create bespoke storage solutions or open-plan layouts that maximise space.
4. Dopamine Decor
Dopamine decor focuses on creating vibrant, uplifting interiors through bold colours and creative touches. Whether it’s repainting old furniture or adding pops of bright hues, this trend is about bringing joy to everyday spaces.
For Homeowners: Start small by repainting a vintage chair or adding colourful artwork.
For Tradies: Encourage clients to experiment with colour. Offer painting services or ideas for updating existing decor.
5. TikTok-Inspired Home Hacks
Social media is influencing renovation trends, with TikTok’s “ugly makeovers” gaining traction. Creative DIYers are finding ways to disguise unsightly features—like hiding wires with decorative trims or blending thermostats into gallery walls.
For Homeowners: Get inspired by online hacks to refresh your space affordably.
For Tradies: Position yourself as the expert who can professionally execute these ideas while ensuring quality and safety.
@dk_dreamhouse Before and after 3.5 months of working on this house interior! (Take a look at our last video to see the exterior progress). Things are taking shape! We have 2.5 months left, and lots more to do, but having the walls and ceilings fixes feel like a major turning point! Most of the remaining tasks are finishing work as opposed to prep, and that is massive for us mentally. Some of you are disappointed that we aren't having full replastering of the walls, but our budget and timeline could not be more relieved. So many things end up being far beyond the scope, that having the walls be under budget is huge! It is hard to even look at the old videos... the look, feel and smell is like night and day. People keep commenting that it's like the house can take a deep breath, and that could not be more accurate! We can also start taking deeper breaths as well! We are so excited about the inside and outside taking shape! But RIP the doorbell (it makes me physically upset to think about). This happened weeks ago during the clear out and I couldn't post about it because I was so sad. And they are hard to find original due to the toxicity... Maybe a blessing in disguise, but sure feels terrible! . . . #beforeandafter #beforeandafterhome #beforeandafterrenovation #beforeandafterhomeedition #plasterrepair #hoarderhousecleanup #1940shouse #houseglowupbeforeandafter ♬ original sound - DK Dreamhouse
6. Wellness-Focused Living Spaces
Homes are increasingly seen as sanctuaries, with wellness spaces prioritising relaxation and mental health. Biophilic design—bringing nature indoors—and transitional zones, like cosy nooks, are key trends for 2025.
For Homeowners: Invest in large plants, vertical gardens, or natural materials to create serene indoor environments.
For Tradies: Highlight your skills in creating biophilic designs or customising spaces to promote relaxation.
Renovations in Context: Why They’re Still Booming
Despite rising costs and tradie shortages, Australians continue to invest heavily in renovations. The monthly value of approved renovations remains above $1 billion. Homeowners are prioritising upgrades that increase comfort and add value, while tradies are in high demand to meet this surge.
