A double carport may be a good investment in replacement of a garage. The materials are few, and it’s relatively quick and easy to build. You don’t need to spend a fortune, but it’s good to be aware that a poorly built or rushed job may be an eyesore, especially when it comes to selling your home.
However, if budget is your top priority, then a double carport is the way to go. Whilst a double carport is twice the size of a single, you’re not spending nearly twice as much as you save on materials, time, and labour costs.
It’s also possible to DIY carport installation. However, because of the prominent visual nature of the carport, you’d want to be very handy with tools and feel confident that the carport kit is the right product for you.
Carport prices
The minimum price of a carport sits at around $3,000. However, the prices can range up to $7,000 if you have to arrange any demolition, concreting, and electrical services.
The average price of a carpenter sits at around $35 an hour but can obviously range to much higher, depending on the complexity of work required and materials.
Other factors, such as power plugs or lighting, will require an electrician at an average cost of $50 an hour. You may also need extensive concrete footing and slabs, adding to the costs and number of tradies involved.
DIY carport kits can cost as little as $2,200- a great option if the budget is tight, but potentially not so good if you are concerned about the aesthetic value of your house.
