The pricing war over the cost of electricians in Sydney and electricians in Melbourne is on – but which state comes up victorious?
New pricing data released by ServiceSeeking.com.au reveals the ongoing battle between Sydneysiders and Melbournites is alive and well in the trades sector, with those south of the border paying considerably more for their electrician.
According to the data, which is based on more than 70,000 home renovation and repair quotes submitted through ServiceSeeking.com.au between October 2007 and March 2010, Victorians were the outright winners overall when it came to the costs of household and trade services, forking out 4.6% less than both New South Wales residents.
But this trend was completely squashed when it came to the “Electrician Sydney vs. Electrician Melbourne” category. Unbelievably, the cost of an electrician is a whopping 8.6% more in Victoria than in New South Wales. While an electrician in Sydney costs an average of $60.86 per hour, Melbourne residents are forking out an average of $66.61 per hour.
But with prices 9.7% higher than NSW, it’s electricians in Queensland that are really laughing all the way to the bank. Residents in the Sunshine State were victorious in the “Electrician Sydney vs. Electrician Brisbane” category, thanks to booming construction in South East Queensland driving demand – and prices.
So, how did the rest of the nation fare? The jury’s still out on some of the country’s larger metropolitan areas. Check back soon for stats on the “Electrician Perth” category.
