If you’re looking to give your home a fresh coat of paint, you might be interested to know that house painting costs in Australia increased by an average of 2.9% or around $1.15/hr, according to our latest Renovation Consumer Price Index.
After receiving and comparing a total of 3,356 quotes between July and September 2013, we found out that the average rate of house painting across Australia increased from $39.66/hr to $40.81/hr.

Brisbane house painters charge the most for their services with an average rate of $41.69/hr. On the other hand, Adelaide remains the city with the lowest house painting rate, averaging $37.21/hr.
Perth used to have the most expensive prices for house painting, but this isn’t the case any more as house painters in Perth offered a dramatic reduction of 12.2% or $5.8/hr from last year’s price. This meant that Perth house painters, who currently charge $41.60/hr on average, are more affordable than Brisbane painters by a slight margin.
Melbourne and Sydney house painters charge roughly the same price for their services with an average rate of $40.39/hr and $40.83/hr, respectively. These cities also received the most quotes for house painting services.
Sydney registered a big positive change in the number of quotes. From only 498 quotes last year, Sydney house painters sent out 1249 quotes this year.
Painters in Melbourne have also been active, with 913 quotes sent out. Aside from Brisbane, the other metro cities also posted more quotes this year.
