As the most populated state, New South Wales (NSW) hosts the most weddings, with 39,137 ceremonies held in 2008. There were 27,089 ceremonies in Victoria (Vic) and 26,803 in Queensland (Qld).

But which is the cheapest state to get married in? From the look of our data it’s not a case of more demand inciting more competition and lower prices – but the exact opposite. Although NSW boasted the cheapest videography rates, with an average of $1,036 per job compared to Vic’s $1,496 – Qld is the cheaper state across most other services.

Photography, celebrants, flower and invitations can be found for less in Qld than anywhere else on the Eastern Seaboard. Photography is substantially cheaper, with the average job in Qld totalling $761 – more than $200 less than what’s charged in NSW.

Price is also hugely dependent on time of year. Due to the lovely weather, November is the number one month to get married with 15,109 (12.7%)weddings nationally, closely followed by March. Anecdotal evidence suggests you can also expect to pay more for wedding services during this time.

Costs decrease in winter when demand is lower, although prices in Qld remain steady during this time as couples escape to warmer weather to tie the knot.
